Christian Marriage
Christian Marriage is a divine institution
born in the heart of God and part of His gracious
purpose for mankind. His intention is a life-long
partnership of a man and wife, with absolute faithfulness
to each other.
Marriage according to the form and discipline of the
Presbyterian Church is the pledging of a man and
a woman, one to the other in solemn covenant before
God and His witnesses. The Marriage Service is an
ordinance of the Church distinct from its sacraments.
In it the Church stands witness to the marriage
covenant and prays God's blessing upon those whom,
in His Name, it has pronounced to be husband and wife.
Christian marriage depends, from beginning to end,
upon God's mercy, help and guidance for the necessary
mutual trust and cooperation. Its responsibilities
are great but its joys are even greater. Christian
marriage gains not only social but also spiritual
benefits as it is entered and sustained within the
Church. |
